China eSIM on China Mobile: WeChat, Hotspot and Prices

All 13 Skylano China plans run on China Mobile, Skylano's partner network in China, and work directly on arrival. For individual apps, the China plan page says access to Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and other services depends on the selected plan's data routing and current local restrictions, and asks you to confirm the plan details before relying on any particular app.

The China plan page says: "Apps such as WeChat, Alipay, DiDi and local map services may need mobile data for messages, verification, payments or ride details." All 13 Skylano China plans are data-only, so these apps run over mobile data rather than a local phone line.

For calls, the plan page's Details list says: "Calls: Not available; calls can be made through VoIP apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, or WeChat." It also says: "A data-only profile does not provide a mainland Chinese phone number." If an app asks for a Chinese number for sign-up or verification, the eSIM won't give you one: none of the 13 plans include a phone number.

• Network: China Mobile, for all 13 plans. The plan page lists "China Mobile, and other local network providers."
• Calls and SMS: not included; all 13 plans are data-only.
• Tethering (hotspot): allowed on all 13 plans. The page adds that "final availability depends on the device and local network."
• Top-up: 12 of the 13 plans can be topped up. The 500MB-a-day daily plan can't.

The 5 daily plans give you a set amount each day, and all 5 are throttled to 384 Kbps after the daily limit:

The China plan page doesn't give a reset time for the 5 daily plans. Skylano's Terms say a daily allowance may reset by calendar day, 24-hour period, local network timing or supplier system timing.

The 8 total-data plans give one allowance for the whole validity period, from 7 to 180 days:

All 13 China-only plans list mainland China only. If your trip continues to Hong Kong, Macau, Japan or South Korea, a regional plan keeps 1 eSIM for the route:

This page may not fit your trip in 2 cases:

• You need calls, SMS or a local phone number. All 13 China plans are data-only, and the China plan page says a data-only profile does not provide a mainland Chinese phone number. In Skylano's plan feed on 3 November 2026, all 2,013 plans list voice and SMS as not included. Skylano's Terms say that, unless a product page expressly states otherwise, plans don't include voice calls, SMS, emergency calling or a local phone number.
• Your trip is only to Hong Kong or Macau. The 13 China plans list mainland China only; the Greater China plan lists mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, from $6.99 for 3GB over 30 days.
